For National Women in Small Business Month, we teamed up with women business owners and leaders to review books written by women, for women. Below, Vanessa Slater of Creative Paw Spa reviews Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur by Cara Alwill Leyba. These opinions are solely those of the reviewer and do not necessarily reflect those of Kabbage. Check out the other book reviews we’ve posted, here.
Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur
For my book review, I chose Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur because the title jumped out at me. It sounded like the book most geared towards my age bracket.
Girl Code was very easy to understand and included ten interviews to break up the author’s text, which helped keep my attention. This book really helps encourage woman to get into the mindset to work together not against each other. I expected to take away some bland, vanilla advice but instead took away a lot of great empowering words of wisdom from someone whom has actually been very successful.
All of Leyba’s ideas and thoughts were fully supported by personal experience. It felt like someone had actually test drove all of this advice before giving it. This book was extremely informative especially for any woman looking for a little empowerment and great advice. Chapter 6 was especially helpful for me as I’m also trying to build my own empire in the pet grooming industry. It explains that it’s okay for people to not understand what you’re doing and not understand that you DO need to evolve as a person and a brand.
I haven’t read any other books on this subject, so I really appreciated that the author had first hand advice from personal experiences and multiple interviews from other women. It gave a lot of different perspectives on similar advice and experiences.
I think any woman looking for advice and empowerment in her business life would benefit from this book. I highly recommend this book!
