Shyp Expands Its Offerings to Make Shipping Even Easier

If shipping is a core part of your business, you’re not alone. It can be a huge cost center, a risk to maintaining high customer satisfaction and a way to get your wares out into the world. UPS and FedEx have been taking steps to make shipping easier, faster and more tech-enabled. Even the United States Postal Service has been updating their services and adding barcodes to labels. But new upstarts are looking to disrupt their businesses with more integrated and expansive solutions.

Shyp is a startup that was founded in 2013 and has since raised more than $60 million in funding. They “pick up, package and send your stuff for the lowest price” and are available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Chicago. For a flat $5 fee on top of normal shipping costs, Shyp will send a courier to your home or office, pick up what you want to mail, package it and send it out. Using the Shyp app, you can take a photo of what you’d like shipped and your courier will bring the appropriate packaging materials. You’ll also receive a text when your order is processed and a second text when it ships.

Shyp sources and selects the lowest shipping option for your package and works with FedEx, UPS and USPS. The $5 fee covers courier pickup and packaging for up to 20 shipments.

The company just released two new product updates that will streamline its delivery process. First, customers can send items to Shyp customers through the app simply by typing in their recipient’s name or username. Now they can also track packages directly through the app.

In addition to these major additions, Shyp has been making incremental improvements over the past few years as they gear up to compete directly with UPS and FedEx. The company underwent a brand redesign to evoke a “classic yet confident” persona. Shyp’s iOS and Android apps have been rebooted to reflect this new branding. They also transitioned employees from 1099 workers to W2 employees. A salaried workforce of couriers will ensure that they maintain consistently high customer service and avoid issues with contract workers.

Shyp’s $5 flat fee and the added convenience of never having to leave your workplace to send packages, makes the service ideal for small businesses. It’s resource and time-intensive to ship items from the post office and we can’t wait to see how businesses take advantage of this tool.
