8 Free and Impactful Ways to Show Employees You Care
Hi everybody. Okay so today I want to talk about one of my favorite topics, which is caring about your people. Showing that you care does not have to be elaborate or expensive, and I want to
talk through some ideas I have today that you can implement or make sure you’re doing that cost you absolutely nothing. Okay so number one: I want to start by talking about doing what you say you’re going to do. This is so important when you tell your employees you’re going to do something and you don’t it just shows them that you don’t really care or respect them; so, make sure at all costs you are doing what you say you’re going to do. You can also share your story. You have a story and you’ve grown your near career and maybe you’re the manager or a franchisee or in the owner, and you should share. This a great way for you to connect with your people and maybe even inspire them to follow a similar path that you have had. Okay, making eye contact is a great way to show people that you care and listening, and you know removing all of the distractions. I know the world is filled with iPads and telephones, and you know people and we’re busy but taking the time to listen and make eye contact with your people will absolutely show them that you care. You can also let someone else do the talking. And what I
mean by that it’s really great to have other leaders or trainers talk with your people and teach them, and you could share some of the many free TED talks that are out there and there’s so much that will inspire them and teach them. You can implement that into meetings or conversations and share this stuff via email and it will definitely be inspirational and it’ll show them that you care about them learning and growing. Alright, cut your people some slack. Everybody has lives and problems and gets sick and has issues: good days, bad days, and showing them that you know you understand that they’re human beings and not just employees or if they make a mistake you’re okay with that will absolutely go a long way. Alright, giving your honest feedback is absolutely way to show people that you care about them. It’s hard to do that sometimes, to tell people the honest or the brutal truth but when you give this constructive feedback in a very respectful and considerate way you will only win. You’re going to teach them and they are going to know that you care about them. Don’t forget to say “thank you” and “please” and those little common courtesies go such a long way and we often times forget that as we’re running our restaurants and doing what we do, but taking the time to really show your
appreciation to everybody is certainly important. And then, lastly, showing people that you are invested in them and you want to teach them and building a culture in an environment of learning and growing and training is so important. Providing opportunities for people to be
promoted and to advance in their career will certainly be amazing. So one of my all-time favorite quotes and it is a really old one and you’ve probably heard it before but Theodore Roosevelt said “nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care”, and if
there’s one motto I live by it is definitely that one. Alright, have a great day.
